WHAT IS 3x3 BASKETBALL?

Jr Boys (Grade 5 to Grade 8)

Highschool Boys/Girls Division (Grade 9 to Grade 12)

OUR RULES
- Rock, paper, scissors" determines initial ball possession; court monitor/ref supervises and keeps score.
- Games are 20 minutes running time with no time-outs; short water breaks allowed due to heat or lack of subs.
- Unlimited substitutions allowed after made baskets or when the ball is not in play.
- Teams can play with only two players (3 on 2).
- Jump ball possession alternates.
- 3 seconds in the lane results in a turnover; refs may issue reminders.
- Change of possession requires both feet and the ball to go outside the 3-pt line.
- Ball checked behind the arc if it goes out of bounds.
- Half-court line is out of bounds.
- Following a made basket or dead ball, the ball can be checked anywhere behind the arc.
- Defensive rebound must be taken past the arc (includes air balls); no "free put-backs."
- No stalling; ref's discretion for a 30-second shot clock.
- Scoring: 2 points inside the arc, 3 points outside the arc.
- Free Throws: Fouled player shoots one free throw worth 1, 2, or 3 points depending on the situation.
- Bonus Free Throws: One shot worth 2 points for fifth team foul and subsequent fouls by opponents; no double-bonus.
- Intentional fouls result in 2 points PLUS the ball, regardless of when they occur.
- Players have 6 seconds to shoot a free throw once teams are lined up.
- Free throws for different players shoot closer as designated by referees.
- Draws settled with a free-throw shootout; each team gets three opportunities (3 different shooters).
- The team making the most out of three free throws is declared the winner.
- If tied after three shots, additional free throws shot alternately until one team makes it and the other misses.
